I had the pleasant surprise this morning to find my that my latest story had been not only accepted, but also published at The Nautilus Engine. The development cycle has been quite short for this one. I wrote a first draft of 1300 words in November in about ninety minutes. I let it sleep for about two weeks, sent it to Josie and AT (my two beta readers) and applied the editorial changes, which really just were to develop in the passages that felt rushed. So I made a second draft around 1800 words and submitted to The Nautilus Engine, because its spectulative fiction endeavors seemed to suit the strangeness of the material.
It's a very disturbing story, I'm warning you. It's sitting in between noir and horror with a somewhat mystical point of view. I was writing it and kept thinking: "What's wrong with me? This is creepy as hell" but writing it felt so natural that I had to do it. I'm very proud to have this up at The Nautilus Engine, a small but efficient webzine. Thanks to editor Ron Warren for giving me the opportunityHere it is for you...
