Dead End Follies Awards 2012 : Nominees for Funniest Book

Laurel and Hardy are preparing to sue. Just look at their mischievous mugs.

I know what you're thinking. Funniest Book? Why not saddest or angriest book while you're at it, Ben! It's a slippery slope to reward a book for inducing a certain emotion, because in the end, it's all freakin' relative, right? Well, there's a reason to that. A method to my madness, if you will. I'm rewarding humor out of most emotions, because it's a sign of a great literary depth. Hollywood comedies aren't always funny, because they're trying to make you laugh all the time, but humor in a novel is sign that characters had highs and will have inevitable lows. Comedy is not a genre in itself in literature, because it's unthinkable to write a successful 300 pages running gag, but it's rather a tool to indicate the depth of the characters journeys. Funny characters aren't just mindless taskdoers, they are also people. Compelling people. My choices represent exactly that. The nominees are.

Have you read any of these? Who do you think deserves to win?
