I like to go book shopping on Fridays, at lunch time. It relaxes me and steers me towards the week-end in a positive way. There is an Indigo Book Store about five to seven minutes away from my work place, so I took about thirty minutes of my lunch break last Friday for a visit. Here is the loot I was able to plunder.
J.D Salinger - The Catcher In The Rye: I have been writing about an angry eighteen years old for about a year now. I wonder what took me so long to read Salinger. The man might teach me a thing or two about writing angry, testosterone filled young males. Also, I have to read it for Sarah's challenge.
Jim Thompson - The Alcoholics: Once again, there were a very few possible choices at my reach in terms of Jim Thompson book. I have to say that this novel gained my attention and seduced be from its title and from its funny jacket blurbs. Thompson is a king at describing alcohol problems, so I have a hunch this will be good.
Dashiell Hammett - Red Harvest: Originally, I wanted to buy only three books. I was seduced by the absolutely brutal jacket blurb and the novel's reputation as the most intense work of Dashiell Hammett. The Maltese Falcon disappointed me, but this books seems to be a completely different breed of animal.
David Foster Wallace - Girl With Curious Hair: The last step in my preparation for Infinite Jest. I haven't read a full Wallace this year (only the very succinct This Is Water) and this will give me more experience and a better grasp of Wallace's writing. I am about two months away from reading his game changing novel.
